Private Residence, Blewbury, Oxfordshire

Grand Design Blinds were approached by Ashbrook Homes to provide a solution for discreet bespoke electric blinds for all of the windows at a new eco-home they were building. The large windows and sliding doors along the front of the building and the skylights in the bedrooms had recesses incorporated into the construction according to our designs to enable the blinds to be completely hidden when not in use.

Roller blinds in a screen fabric were the perfect choice for privacy, glare reduction and solar shading in the open plan kitchen/living room and hallway, whereas a different solution was required for the bedrooms.  Duette pleated blinds in a blackout fabric were used for the difficult two-sided window in the master bedroom, as the light gap in the corner could be much smaller than with roller blinds, which would also not be able to span the 4.2m width with a single blind. Blackout Duette blinds were also provided for the skylights, with side rails to prevent the need for several support wires spanning the void. All of the blinds were connected to the building's Loxone home automation system, enabling the blinds to be automatically operated according to the angle of the sun and the temperature inside the house.

The project was featured in Self Build & Design magazine's January 2017 issue, read the article here.
